Q.  Where are you located?

A  208 2nd Ave. S.E.  Cedar Rapids, IA  52401.  Our telephone number is  319-362-8133.

Q.  How do I purchase tickets for the shows?

A.  Easiest way is to purchase them directly from our website.  You can print your ticket at home and bring it down night of the show.  Don't worry if you could not print them out, we have your reservation on file attached to your name.  You can also call 319-362-8133 to purchase tickets with credit card on the phone.  We do not hold tables, we run your credit card to reserve you a spot.  You can also stop down during business hours to buy tickets directly.  Seating is reserved so if you want to sit with another group that has purchased tickets you need to let us know.

Q. What are showtimes?

A.  Friday & Saturday show times are at 8:00PM (Special circumstances do apply) Seating for the showroom starts one hour prior to the showtime and cocktail bar opens at 6:00.  Our Open Mic Night (every Wednesday) starts at 8:00.  Weekday Special Event shows may vary.

Q.  How is seating based?

A.  Seating is NOT general admission.  Penguin's assigns seating based on when tickets are purchased.

Q. How is group seating done?

A. Email penguinscomedyclub.com or call 319-362-8133 with everyone in the group, their ticket number, show time/ date and the name for your group. 

Q.  How long is the show?

A.  We try to tailor our shows to be a solid 1 1/2 hour of pure enjoyment.  

Q  How old must you be to enter your venue?

A.  Penguin's Comedy Club is  a 21 or older establishment.

    Heywood Banks is simply one-of-a-kind, almost impossible to describe, with a style his very own. Equal parts genius and buffoon, this songwriter-comic-singer-poet-musician has become a cult hero and a pop icon, with a show that appeals to college students, stoners, businessmen, yuppies, rednecks, punks, kids or your grandmother.

    Heywood has been featured in "Rolling Stone Magazine" and "People Magazine." He won First Place in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search Contest.  Heywood has appeared on A&E's "Evening at the Improv," MTV's "1/2 Hour Comedy Hour," CNN's "Hollywood Minute," "Caroline's Comedy Hour," "Entertainment Tonight," "Showtime Comedy Club Network," "Dr. Demento Show," "12th Annual HBO Young Comedians Special with Paul Rodriguez" and is a frequent guest on the national Bob and Tom radio show.

  • Hal Sparks

    Along with having been the main star in the role of inventive scientist, Donald Davenport in Disney XD’s “Lab Rats,” actor and comedian Hal Sparks also directed several episodes of the critically-acclaimed comedy show and is now an active member of the Directors Guild of America.  Since the show's premiere in 2012, "Lab Rats" has been the network's most watched program.  The show was added to the Disney Channel's regular line-up garnering more fans and ratings than ever projected.  Hal also delighted fans when he appeared in Season 2 of Netflix’ “Fuller House” as Nelson, an old high school boyfriend of DJ’s.
    Hal began his professional career as a teenager in Chicago. As a member of the famed Second City Troupe, his quick wit and affable personality quickly gained him recognition and acclaim and he was named the “Funniest Teenager In Chicago” by the Chicago Sun Times. Sparks went on to host the Emmy Award- winning “Talk Soup” on E! Entertainment Television, winning rave reviews from fans and critics alike. He starred for five seasons on Showtime’s hit series “Queer As Folk” and appeared in the many films like “Extract,” “Spiderman 2” and “Dude, Where’s My Car?” Sparks also starred in his own one hour Showtime comedy special, “Charmageddon,” which has continued to be one of their best-selling DVDs.  Being a versatile talent, Hal is also an accomplished musician performing with his popular band, Zero 1.
    Hal is very involved in many Humane Society events based on his love of animals and is also quite prominent in all matters affecting the LGBT community where he continues to be one of the biggest supporters.  Since his show, Queer as Folk, was one of the most groundbreaking series and was way before it’s time, there is continued interest in the show and Entertainment Weekly recently did a huge story with a reunion of the cast members featuring Hal.
    Hal resides in Los Angeles and has a young son, Camden, who is the light of his life.
