OTHER GREAT SHOWS!

  • Guy Torry
March 27, 2015 at 7:30 PM Guy Torry
    Guy's Story

In the tradition of comedians who have made the transition from the stage to the screen, such as Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby, multi-talented Guy Torry has made the leap to comedic actor with great success.  Guy Torry moved to Los Angeles, CA to join his two older brothers, famed comedian/actor Joe Torry, and now US Army Lt. Colonel Ramon Torry in 1992.  Actually moving to Southern California to finish his education in pursing a degree in marketing.  After moving there and being inspired by HBO’s Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam, Guy decided, that’s the career path he should take. Guy started hitting the comedy pavement, performing at comedy clubs in Los Angeles, sometimes going up 3 or 4 times a night.

Focused and dedicated to stand up, Guy won his first comedy competition while competing with seasoned pros after only six months of doing comedy. That gave him the confidence to continue to pursue a career in the field of stand up comedy. After only a year and a half in the game, Guy had a chance to audition for the very show inspired him to try stand up.

After careful consideration, Guy along with his brother Joe decided that maybe a little more time was needed to hone the craft and try out the next season.   That proved to be golden. Martin Lawrence the show’s host, stepped down, and Guy’s brother Joe was named as the new host. Bob Sumner, the shows talent coordinator, gave Guy the green light for his stand up television debut. Guy went on to join the national Def Comedy Jam Tour and play to sold out theatres around the country.

He continued to hit perfect his craft while not on DCJ tour in local clubs and other comedy clubs around the country. After securing a manager and agent, Guy started booking acting jobs, which raised his global profile. In 1995, after seeing a lack of industry coming down to the urban neighborhoods to scout some of the other Black comedians, Guy created Phat Comedy Tuesdays at the world famous Comedy Store. Guy wanted to bring the “hood” to Holly “wood” to showcase some of LA’s up and coming Black talent.  The show was a hit, and lasted for 10 years.  The name was later changed to “The Guy Torry Comedy Show” because of all of the other clones around he country.

During this time, Guy has toured the country and abroad displaying his brand of comedy and bringing laughs to every one. All of this attracted the attention of “The Kings of Comedy “ creator Walter Latham, who hired Guy to the original host of the tour. The tour did 52 dates as Guy as the host along with other veteran comedians, Cedric The Entertainer, the late Bernie Mac, and Steve Harvey, After a year of touring, Guy decided to leave the show to pound the comedy pavement again, and work on his craft.

He also booked a one-hour action/drama show on the now defunct television network UPN that wouldn't allow him to tour. He now tours the country hitting comedy clubs and theatres working on a comedy album and putting together the right set for a comedy special.

  • Rob Little
April 17, 2015 at 7:30 PM Rob Little

Rob Little’s outlook on life can be summed-up in two words:
Pure Optimism. At a young age, he developed and nurtured
an upbeat philosophy about life.  In a recent interview he
revealed, "In elementary school, kids would always pull
food away from me at lunchtime saying mean, hurtful
things like… 'Let go of my sandwich!'"

Fortunately, Rob’s ability to see things in a positive light,
coupled with his desire to make people laugh, has served
him well.  While working in a lucrative position as a
computer programmer for IBM, he decided to take a huge risk. The Detroit-born comic sent out an ALL-company e-mail that read, "If you aren't happy here, quit your job and follow your dream." IBM promptly gave him his walking papers, but getting fired was a blessing for Rob and comedy lovers nationwide.  He now enjoys an incredibly successful career as a stand-up comedian and with an impressive and growing portfolio of television and film appearances, he is quickly earning national recognition.

Watch Rob in action, and you’ll agree that he is one of the very best stand-up comedians in the country.  A sketch comedy player on the Fox Sports Net Show, "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" and "Last Call with Carson Daly," Little uses his training from the world famous Second City Comedy Club to create routines that are inventive, funny, spontaneous, and completely unique. He headlines clubs and colleges all over the country, has appeared in national television commercials and on such shows as Comedy Central's “Distraction,” Fox News and SiTV's “Latino Laugh Festival.”  He also earned a role on the CBS network summer hit series, “Fire me Please.”   Rob’s recently released 3rd comedy DVD/CD, is another testament to his talent and status as a comedic force.

Having established himself as one of the funniest, most progressive, new comedians in the country, it’s easy to understand why entertainment bookers call him "The Future of comedy with more contagious energy than the Energizer Bunny."  The Detroit Free press selected him as the “Best up and Coming Comedian,” and he earned the title of “finalist” in both the Seattle and San Francisco International Comedy Competitions.  Rob was also selected as a feature performer at the Chicago Comedy Festival along with the Boston Comedy and Movie Festival.  Recently Rob was named Maxim Magazine’s “Real Man of Comedy”.  Last Comic Standing on NBC named him, “The Happiest Comic in America”.  Campus Activities Magazine named him “College Comic of the Year” and you have also seen him on the Comedy Central sketch comedy show “Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time”.

Don't let the "Little" name fool you. Little is BIG! But that has never slowed him down. "Yeah, I'm big, and all my relatives are too. Heck, we just got our family portrait done by aerial photography. And there are only three of us."  The truth is, Rob is big in more ways than one.  With a grin on his face, a gleam in his eye, and a passion for comedy that is larger than life, he’s the biggest thing to happen to comedy in a long, long time.

  • Scott Long
May 01, 2015 at 7:30 PM Scott Long

Welcome to a Real Reality Show. Scott Long tells his story of growing up in the Cornstalk Ghetto of Iowa and how an extremely dysfunctional childhood put him on the path to 1 of 2 careers; standup comedy or serial killing. Fortunately for all of us, cracking wise has worked well for him!

No two Scott Long performances are ever the same, as depending on the audience he can bring a PG to R-rated show. His latest show is called Good Dad…Not a Great Dad and it’s a hilariously edgy, but sometimes poignant exploration of having twins at 40 years old. The CD of this show has gotten great reviews, which includes what the comedy website Under the Gun said… “I’ve listened to and reviewed 52 comedy albums in 2013, but Scott Long’s is probably the one that touched me the most.

Scott has been seen on NBC, FOX, ESPN, and the Bob and Tom Show.  For the past 11 years he’s written the comedy sketches for the NFL on FOX pregame show. Scott has also written a book of comedic essays entitled Dysfunctional Thoughts of a 21st Century Man, plus released 2 comedy CD’s and 2 comedy DVD’s.  His standup comedy blog, Fly Over Comedy (scottcomedy.com) gets 1000′s of hit each week.

Well here we are...another awkward bio from a comedian.  I could loft the usual tidbits at you..."Here's who I've opened for"..."Here's where I started"..."I ALWAYS wanted to be a comedian".
The hope in revealing those kind of details is that it would add some legitimacy to my being, but no matter what I give you, you're not going to lose OR gain any sleep.  Here's what you want to know...am I funny?  Yes...I'm damn funny.  Am I Jerry Seinfeld funny?  I think so, at times, although I'll bet you he'd have a different answer.  I started doing stand up when I was 24.  I've never made the move to the "big city".  Would that have helped my career?  What do you think?  However, I chose to stay in Michigan so we could raise our daughters in an environment that would keep them from wanting breast implants for their birthday when they turned 8.  I'm not going to over-pump myself...I'm a good comedian with good material.  It's not for everybody (see Birmingham, AL), but it's for a lot of people.  I'm proud of what I do and I don't pine over the couple of people in the crowd who don't like me...I gave up on those a-holes years ago.  Understand something about life...not everyone is going to have twinkle in their eye when you walk in the room, so keep walking and don't waste your time on the non-twinklers.  Just get to one of my shows and judge for yourself.  I mean, look at the quality of this website...you know the tickets are cheap.
